The Beginning of the End – Prophecy Watch

By Patrick Hawthorne

As one who is fond of regaling tales of adventure and hidden treasures, I enjoy studying Bible prophecy.  Each time I learn something new, it is as if I found that one valuable clue necessary to point me towards the infamous X on the treasure map

“knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” (2 Peter 3:3-4 NKJV.)

If we were to go back in time a little over one hundred years ago, there would be virtually nothing of prophetic significance to indicate the soon return of Jesus.  Think about it.There was no Nation of Israel, no technology capable of tracking the monetary movements of the entire world, no television or satellite systems to record world events in real time, and no ability to move about the world rapidly. Technology, at best, was a mere dribble compared to the flood we see today.  If you were to ask most Christian’s back then if the season of Jesus’ return was at hand, most would probably say no.

Unlike the Christian’s a hundred years ago compared to Christian’s of today, we are being bombarded with prophetic nuggets at such a rate that most have become numb to the signs.  This is one reason why Jesus was able compare the days of Noah and Lot to today’s world. Most are going about their business without the faintest clue that the Day of the Lord is soon approaching.

Scoffers – mockers and false teachers – shout, “Where is the coming of this Lord Jesus you keep spouting?  You have been shouting this dribble for years and years, yet we do not see His return.”  What they don’t realize is that Daniel’s prophecy is being fulfilled at a rate quicker than the words exiting their mouths.  “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” (Daniel 12:4 NKJV.)

Make no mistake.  We are living in the season of the soon return of our Lord Jesus.  Will it be a year from now or one hundred years from now?  I don’t know.  What I do know is that at this very moment we are closer than we have ever been.  Are you ready?  Be blessed.

28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (Luke 21:28 NKJV.)

  1. I really like this part of scripture, ” For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” We need to be living as if Jesus Christ’s coming changed the whole world, because it did. All things do not “continue as they were,” we have been restored, redeemed. Many Christians today act as if we are still waiting for Jesus to come, which we are in some ways, but He already came, rose again, and was victorious.

DC comics has accidentally or unwittingly really highlighted the nature of this problem, with a really blasphemous storyline about Jesus having to come back and learn from a superhero, because He allegedly didn’t get it right the first time He came. I can holler about bad writing and comic books, but the truth is that they’ve simply grabbed onto a concept and attitude we Christians sometimes have.
