A World Gone Mad!

By Patrick Hawthorne

lawlessness

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. (Ephesians 6:13 NIV)

A storm is on the horizon.  Can you feel it?  I can.  It is the feeling of an all-consuming evil, thick and vile, slowly consuming every inch of this world like a heavy black ooze.  It is a sense of lawlessness; a “Me and Mine” mentality.

I don’t like this message.  It is not pleasant.  Nevertheless, it is one of importance.

We try to denounce this evil.  We cry out against it in public, from our church buildings, from our work places, from our writings; yet not many seem to hear – not many seem to care.  Why?  Has the world gone mad?  Has the world lost its mind?  The truth is so obvious, yet so many seem to have blinders fixed over their eyes.  Common sense is not common anymore.  What is going on?

Could it be that the stage is being set for the final act before the revealing of the man of lawlessness spoken of in the Word? Are the main actors taking their position before the final raising of the curtain?

The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2 Thess 2:9-12).

The truth is that some people just do not want to be saved.  Many have chosen to become worthless in their thinking.  With pointless reasoning and silly speculation, they have allowed their hearts to become hardened and darkened.  Claiming to be wise, they have become as fools. (Based off Romans 1:21-22.) They are their own gods.  Having hardened their hearts to the Living God and His righteousness in lieu of unrighteous deception, they – like pigs – are allowed to roll in the muck of their own folly.

“And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie…”

Now, more than ever, I understand the words of Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2:6, “And now you know what is restraining…”  It is you.  It is me.  The body of Jesus Christ is the restrainer who is holding back the man of lawlessness from coming into full power.  How are we doing this?  By standing…And when we have done all, we stand even the more.  Don’t lose hope.  Don’t lose faith.  Do not fear.  Jesus said these things must happen before His glorious return.  Trust in the One who is able to keep you safe from stumbling, and cause you to stand in the presence of His glory free from blemish and full of exultant joy.  (Jude 1:24.)

“Now when these things begin to happen, look up – stand tall upon your feet – and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (Luke 21:28 NKJV.)

Can you feel it?  I can.  Jesus is coming back soon.  Be blessed.

To be fair, probably every age that has come before us thought the same thing about their own age – the world has gone mad! is the complaint of every generation.

As you pointed out – in this and every age, we are called to *stand*. Though the world would fall apart around us, yet we will stand, in faith, doing what the church has always done – gather herself around the Word and preach the Gospel to the lost.

I had a business mentor that gave me some advice once that I’ve never forgot. She said that during a bad business climate, when times are tough and nothing you do seems to move things forward, it’s time to chunk down and get back to basics.

I think it’s time we – the Church – got back to basics too.

    • Hi Anita…I agree and have thought the same thing. However, as one who studies past events as well as Bible prophecy, this brand of madness seems to have permeated all areas of the world in the same exact way.

As you wrote recently, you believe the world to already be in the tribulation period. I believe it is about to begin. Either way, the one true antichrist spoken of in the Bible has yet to be revealed. Yes, there have been many with the antichrist spirit in the past even dating back before the birth of Jesus. However, never has the stage been set as it is now

Patrick, forgive me, I am not terribly familiar with pre-trib eschatology, so as always I have questions 😊

Yes, I am pretty convinced (not by current events, just according to Scripture) that we are already in the tribulation; actually I think everything post-Pentecost – the Church Age – is tribulation. Maybe starting as late as the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem. I haven’t made up my mind 😀 But I do see all the “conditions,” if you will, that need to be fulfilled before the return of the Lord as having been fulfilled. The only thing I’m waiting for is Jesus to come back!

So, question…are you waiting for anything else besides the anti christ or is that like the last thing to happen?

I also think that the second coming will be immediately followed by the final judgement. The same event, really.

I don’t know what the name is for my particular flavour of eschatology, lol!

  2. Oh,amen Patrick! I sense that, too. The scene is being set, the red carpet is being rolled out, things are being lined up. I have never felt that way before, it has never even occurred to me that the Lord could come in my lifetime.

The hard part for me is that it seems as if many people are not listening, they don’t care, they don’t believe, not really. We’ve grown very skeptical, very cynical in the modern world. LOL, also we’re very busy, we have things to do and places to go. I’m laughing because it’s almost comical, like it’s the end of the world, I better pay the bills, use that coupon, pick up the dry cleaning, try to cut the grass……

  3. Anita, I’m not dogmatic about many things dealing with end times. However, the idea that the tribulation began just after the destruction of the temple does not fall in line with Scripture. In Revelations, we are given a definite 7 year period in which a treaty with Israel will be made and then broken after 3.5 years. Being as Israel was not reestablished till 1948, there was no way this treaty could be made prior because Israel was still under Roman rule at the destruction of the temple. This was done by Titus of Rome. To really understand the book of Revelations, we must first understand the book of Daniel. I hope that made sense. I’m tying on my little pad.

Good reminder from 2 Thessalonians…that the man of lawlessness will be coming…and it seems soon.
