A Body Out of Alignment

By Patrick Hawthorne

I’m not one who is keen on revealing things the Lord shows me primarily because I don’t often trust the revelations of others.  Let’s face it; there are too many running around claiming that what their pizza from last night showed them was a revelation from our Lord.  However, this time I will make an exception to my rule and and will let you decide for yourself if what I’m writing is from God.

The other day, while in prayer, I vividly saw two massive stone cog wheels looming over a city.  As to what city, I don’t know.  I don’t think that really mattered as you will see in a moment.  However, the cog wheels towered over the city making the tallest of buildings look small in comparison.

The two stone cog wheels appeared to be struggling to spin but because the cogs were out of alignment, cog was striking cog instead of moving fluidly.  Obviously driven by individual power sources, each wheel continued to try to move forward.  This resulted in the cogs destroying each other with the fall out debris descending upon the city below.

What I believe the Lord was showing me is that the Church – the Body as a whole and within each community – is out of alignment.  It is as if the congregation is out of alignment with the Praise and Worship Teams who is out of alignment with the Pastor.  As a result of this misalignment, many are becoming discouraged in their walk with the Lord.  Instead of praying and seeking the Lord for answers, some begin to point fingers looking for the source of the misalignment, while forcing their opinions on others.  The fall-out debris of this discontentment is descending upon our cities as we, the cogs within the wheel, begin to destroy each other.

This is what I believe the Lord is telling me; telling us.  What affects the Church – the Body – directly affects the cities in which we live.  Currently, there is a major spiritual battle going on within each of our individual church communities.  The destroyer, Satan, knows that “as goes the Church so goes our cities.”  Begin to seriously pray for your individual church community that they would be of one accord.  As we do this, I truly believe that we can directly impact the manner in which the Lord is able to move in our cities, our nation, and ultimately the world. Be blessed.

11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. (Ephesians 4:11-16 NKJV)

  1. Fabulous post, Patrick. I sit here reading it with my body literally out of alignment from having moved wrong or something. I think your gears are stuck in my neck somewhere. So when this happens the fix is lots of stretching, exercise, moving.

Where I live, I can see your revelation quite clearly, the fracture in the churches impacting our community in a negative way.

  2. Great job, Patrick. Like you, I’m usually pretty skeptical of things like this, but assume you didn’t eat any pizza right before this vision occurred. If nothing else, it does match what the Word teaches us about the End Times.

One of the operative phrases that we all need in that passage: “Grow up”.

Well, obviously, me and personal revelation look at each other sideways. Nonetheless, your points in this post would be valid and accurate had you just thought them up after prayer, study and meditation on the Word, without a dream. At least in part, our communities are a reflection of our churches, unless of course our churches are having no influence on them, and even then they are still reflecting the churches. I don’t think it’s just happenstance that many of our cities spiraled into more intense chaos at just the same time as many of our churches fled to the suburbs. Good post.

    • Thanks bud….Personal revelation and I tend to look at each other sideways too. That is why I am very cautious about letting others know what has been revealed to me. If I can’t find two or more verses to back it up, I chalk it up to pizza and go about my merry way. I never, never, never want to be guilty of spouting a “Thus says the Lord,” when I know it was not the Lord. However, on the same note, I never, never, never, want to limit the Holy Spirit by refusing to be receptive to how He is permitted to speak to me.

When I saw the cog wheels above the city, I did not reveal it to anyone (including my wife) until the Lord showed me what it meant with three Bible verses to back it up. It was only then that I shared it.

      • I really like how you said that, Patrick, “I never, never, never, want to limit the Holy Spirit by refusing to be receptive to how He is permitted to speak to me,” I too wrestle with that, while also never, ever wanting to be seen or perceived as “speaking for God.” Me too!

The truth is, God speaks to me a lot, dreams, signs,in prayer. He has never contradicted His word.

Many people tend to swing from one extreme to another, so even reading scripture and receiving the revelation there and how it applies to one’s own life, freaks them out. Other people are so open minded, you worry that their brains done fell out.

I don’t have any answers, just saying. 🙂

  7. We are salt and light and when we cease to be the results are horrific. We are out of alignment with each other because individually, we get out of alignment with God. We can’t do anything apart from Him. I’m sorry to say, and I include me in this, the church is very apathetic in our time.
