Woe to You Church of the Forever Dead

By Patrick Hawthorne

I tried and I tried, but the Lord just will not let me off of this subject.  Again, for those coming in late, I have been on a rant against a fictitious religious system I have lovingly ascribed the title of The Church of the Forever Dead.   My main goal in using this fairy tell church is not to argue religion but to open eyes to the fact that it is time for the Body of Christ to wake up out of its slumber and realize that a war is raging all around us.

The Church of the Forever Dead can be found in every denominational and non-denominational group of believers in Jesus Christ.  Why?  Because it is a religious spirit, a system, slipped in by satan to infiltrate the ranks of the believers and to spread damaging discourse by mixing the law in with God’s grace.  In an effort to keep focus away from the actual war, this devilish spirit creates petty doctrinal disputes designed to promote infighting in order to keep focus from the actual battle.

One method to prevent a strong bond within the Body is to look for weaknesses in order to promote distance.  A slip of the tongue or an errant word from a preacher whose thoughts are further along than his message are prime stomping ground.  Instead of looking to the heart as a whole, little snippets and sound bites are taken, scrutinized, dissected, and rebutted.  The end result is that the man or woman of God receives unjust labels.  To add salt to the wound, lazy Christians, instead of searching for the truth, jump on the lowest and slowest band wagon so as not to exert any energy to find out if the claims are accurate.

Now, to you Church of the Forever Dead.  You teach the love of God from your pulpits, but open your arms wide to the comfort of the devil.  “Love, love, love…,” your words are as empty as your heart.  With eyes of condescension you belch your distain for those who do not measure up to your own brand of holiness.  Do you not know that you walk among the living dead?

You are quick to point out the speck of dust in one’s eyes while ignoring the timber in your own. With your rotund belly full of gluttonous pleasures, you accept with open arms the forgiveness of one sin yet ostracize those who are guilty of another.   Like rungs on a ladder, you create rules by which man must climb in order to obtain holiness with Almighty God.

But alas, if we examine our own individual hearts, might we not find that a little portion of the Church of the Forever Dead resides within each of us?  Might it be that we need to examine ourselves, our motives, our agendas?  As I write these posts, the Holy Spirit has indeed opened my eyes to my own guilt.  Woe to me if I do not learn from this valuable lesson.  Be blessed.

Father, I pray in the name of Jesus, that all who read this post will examine their hearts and ask You to reveal anything displeasing within them that needs to be removed.  For You have not called us to uncleanness, but in holiness.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

  1. Today’s Churches/Christians are doing their very best in segregating with all the debate over non-issues, politics, labeling…

I believe God is working on His people, making us holy, calling us back to prayer, back to faith, back to radical love. It is inevitable that the world, the flesh and the devil will oppose that.

You are absolutely right to call us to check our hearts because even as we look sadly at the church of the forever dead – without love in every glance, word and thought we will find ourselves in there with them.

Grace and peace to you 🙂 (am deep in Philippians 1:2)

People are afraid of the Book of Revelation. The Church of the Living Dead is described here:
“To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.” http://biblehub.com/revelation/3-1.htm – We commend your boldness, PatrickHawthorne01 😀
